The Weight of Unsaid Things

I swear, every time I feel like I'm finally getting my head above the clouds, something comes along and drags me right back into the thick of it.

The last several months have been a lot. Just a lot. And I feel like I've spent so much time trying to navigate one thing after another that I haven't really had a chance to just exist without something weighing on me.

I'm fucking exhausted.

Not necessarily the kind of exhausted that a good night's sleep fixes, either. More like the kind where you just want the world to leave you alone for a while. No new problems, no unexpected bullshit, no situations that require you to dig a little deeper to find patience you weren't even sure you had left.

Just some peace.

And not a weekend of peace. Not a few quiet evenings where everything seems fine before the next thing comes along. I mean a genuinely substantial stretch of time where life is just... pleasantly uneventful.

Wouldn't that be something?

But somewhere in the middle of all this, I think something has started to change.

I've always had a tendency to keep certain thoughts to myself. Sometimes because I don't know how to put them into words, but more often because I'm worried about what happens after I say them.

How someone might react. Whether I'll be misunderstood. Whether saying something out loud will somehow make an already stressful situation even more stressful.

And that's a pretty exhausting way to live, too.

Lately, though, I've found myself getting a little closer to saying the things I've been sitting on. Actually acknowledging what I feel, what I need, and what I don't necessarily want to keep carrying around.

It's uncomfortable. It's scary. And I can't say I've suddenly become some fearless, outspoken version of myself who has everything figured out.

Far from it.

But I've started realizing that sometimes the reaction you're afraid of isn't nearly as difficult as continuing to live with the things you're afraid to say.

That's been a strange little revelation.

Nothing has magically resolved itself. I'm still stressed. I'm still tired. I'd still very much like to disappear into a little cottage somewhere in the mountains with my animals, a ridiculous number of plants, and absolutely no obligations beyond deciding what to make for dinner.

But I do feel a little lighter in one particular way.

Maybe it's because I've finally started allowing myself to admit that I'm tired of certain things. Maybe it's because I'm beginning to understand that wanting something different doesn't automatically make me unreasonable.

Or maybe I've just reached that point where keeping everything bottled up feels worse than whatever might happen when I finally open my mouth.

Whatever it is, I'll take it.

I don't have any grand conclusions or inspirational wisdom to wrap this up with. Life is still doing its thing, and I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate it without completely losing my shit.

I just hope there's a little more quiet on the horizon.

And maybe, for once, I won't feel quite so obligated to be quiet myself.
