Birthday Vacation Adventures
Okay! Well, the birthday vacation was pretty good.
We had a wonderful dinner with some new friends and we're already looking forward to meeting up with them again in a couple of weeks. Then on Friday we had a surprise outing to a winery for a strawberry-themed evening. One of our friends invited us out so we could meet her boyfriend, and a couple of his friends came along too. So we ended up meeting even more new people, which was really nice. It was just a really good night all around.
The drive out there was pretty long, but honestly I loved every second of it. Somehow I had the perfect early '90s alternative rock playlist going and every single song seemed to land for both Travis and me. We spent about an hour in the car listening to great music while the sky looked absolutely ridiculous in the best way possible. There were bright sunbeams coming through these huge storm clouds with little patches of blue sky peeking through everywhere. It was one of those drives where everything just felt good. The winery is way out in the country too, so there was a lot of country road driving, and I realized I really haven't done much of that since high school. Maybe a little after, but not much. It was nice.
The next day was mostly running errands and trying to dodge the rain. We grabbed coffee from a new coffee shop that morning, which was good, but once the weather started turning ugly Travis and I decided to try out the new Marathon game.
The rest of the weekend was mostly trying new restaurants and doing a little shopping. I got ridiculously lucky and found a pair of purple leather Converse high tops on clearance. Purple. Leather. Converse. I didn't even know I wanted those until I saw them sitting there.
I also picked up the last book I need from the Lights Out series, Game On. Bought myself one of those LEGO flower bouquets too, which I'll probably put together sometime this week. I also found another pair of shoes that are a little dressier and I'm looking forward to wearing those out somewhere.
Probably one of the biggest things this weekend though was finally getting the hot tub set up. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and we got it all put together on the back deck. We even put a pop-up canopy over it, which makes it feel a little more cozy and private. Now we're just waiting for the right evening to actually use it.
The backyard is really starting to come together too. Travis and I spent quite a bit of time working outside over vacation. Even though we rent this place and don't own it, we still take a lot of pride in our little corner of the world. We like making it comfortable. We like making it ours. Plus we both genuinely enjoy being outside working on things, so it's time well spent.
That hot tub is going to be absolutely amazing this fall and winter.
I also picked up a few more plants and got those in the ground. Hopefully the deer decide to mind their own business and leave them alone. We already have some tomatoes growing and I added a couple of pepper plants too, so we'll see what happens.
Overall it was just a really good vacation. Good food, good music, new friends, some shopping, some backyard projects, and a lot of time spent with people I enjoy being around. Can't really ask for much more than that.
